Linkup – South African Supported Youth Internship (2018)

Butterfly House, our community resource centre, was built in Fairyland in 2008. Fairyland is a previous informal settlement, 10km outside of Paarl. The founding vision of Butterfly House was to address and expand the holistic care practices provided by Drakenstein Palliative Hospice (DPH).

Over 300 children registered from 2-18 are enrolled and participate in the Butterfly House programmes.

For my final year project I will be creating and implementing a Youth Internship Programme, bridging the gap between education and employment.

Helping people, Help People

As an extra I helped Drakenstein Palliative Hospice rebrand and develop their service proposition. Hospices provide a free palliative care service to millions around the world, however, they are currently under threat because of the lack of local and international funding. Websites are expensive to keep up and maintain so I decided to design this website using WIX to allow the NGO to make the changes when and how they want. It is important to allow give our clients control over their designs and products. I believe as designers we need to teach and facilitate our clients so they can take ownership of services.https://www.drakensteinhospice.org.za/
